Studies on srum glutamic pyruvic transaminase in health and in diseases of the liver.

چکیده
It has been reported that serum transaminase activity is found to be altered in certain pathological conditions which are associated with necrosis or other type of cellular damage of cardiac, hepatic or skeletal muscle tissues (5, 6 and 12). It may be that damage to the tissue results in release, from the cells, of the traasaminase, which finds its way into the plasma or serum. Wroblewski and La Due (14) studied and compared the activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in different tissue homogenates. The activity of GPT was found to be relatively greater in liver than in other tissues as compared with the activity of GOT. This would perhaps suggest that the serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), might possibly be a more specific index of liver cell damage than the serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGO-T), because of its selective concentration in liver tissue. Futhermore it might be suggested that since the cardiac tissue activity of GPT is low, myocardial uecrosis might not be associated with significant alterations of SGP-T activity. A study was undertaken to find out the levels ot SGP-T activity in patients with diseases of the liver, in whom other liver function tests were simultaneously carried out. Normal subjects were also studied for their serum transaminase activity. as a control group for comparison. The results of this study are reported herewith.

Objective(s): Various studies have shown that the diabetes is associated with liver failure. The objective of this study was determining the effects of Berberis vulgaris fruit on histopathological and biochemical markers of liver in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 60 male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g with free access to water and ad libitum were randomly divi...

Background and purpose: Acetaminophen is a routine analgesic and antipyretic agent that in overdose causes liver and kidney necrosis in both humans and animals. The cress (Lepidium sativum L.) contains flavonoid, alkaloid, and antioxidant components. In this study we investigated the hepatic protection of the hydroethanolic extract of cress against hepatotoxicity due to acetaminophen. Material...
متن کاملSerum Liver proteins and 17β-estradiol in Postmenopausal Women with Breast Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is a hormone-dependent malignancy that is associated with estrogen and progesterone interactions. The liver is the most important organ to be affected by the metastasis of breast cancer, which causes functional impairment. We compared levels of obesity, 17β-estradiol, and secreted proteins in postmenopausal women with breast cancer but without hepatic symptoms to those...
متن کاملLiver injury in workers exposed to dimethylformamide.
An apparent epidemic cluster of toxic liver disease was reexamined among workers exposed to the solvent dimethylformamide. A demographically similar but unexposed group from a preemployment population was used for comparison. Analysis, after data transformation of the liver transaminases, revealed significant differences between the two populations with respect to the serum glutamic pyruvic tra...

Background: Studies show that there are relations between various types of stress and liver function. The main aim of this study was to determine the effects of immobilization stress and Aloe vera extract on serum level of Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) and Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT) in male rats. Methods: In this laboratory experimental study, male Wistar rats...
